VISUAL ARTS

CAPA’s 2D Visual Arts Curriculum is designed to educate students linearly, from the absolute fundamentals of drawing and seeing like an artist, all the way through more advanced traditional methods such as advanced color theory and oil painting. The style of art we study in 2D classes at CAPA is called Academic Art, because it is a study. Students should continue to practice drawing drills and exercises learned at CAPA for their entire lives. Academic Drawing is a fundamental skill for anyone who creates art.

Visual Arts students regularly submit and show artwork in venues around Philadelphia including at City Hall, The Philadelphia Sketch Club, and other galleries. Their art is regularly sought out by local businesses and has been displayed from South Street to North Philly. Our students consistently win awards from City Hall and School District of Philadelphia art shows. As of Fall 2025, we have a display of CAPA artwork in the new building on Broad Street that the GIANT supermarket resides in. The gallery manager approached us last year and selected a variety of work that is currently displayed.
